It depends on what I am working on. Very use to the pedal but am trying the button more and more since I got my new Pfaff creative sensation.

luana, yes, you are right about your hand having to leave your work when you use the start/stop button. That's just about the only thing I preferred about my Pfaff over my BabyLock. On the Pfaff you could press the button and then tap the foot pedal to get it to stop. I LOVED that feature. I use the foot pedal for regular sewing, and the start/stop button for FMQ'ing so I get a regular speed, but every time I have to lift a hand to press that button I grumble.

IMHO the ONLY thing the start/stop button is good for is winding bobbins. I need my hands to control the fabric.

I use the on off button all of the time - except FMQ. I am surprised to hear that some of you use the start stop button when FMQ.. maybe I have to revisit that. I like the idea of the constant speed... but letting a hand off my project when I am FMQ to hit the stop button gives me a heart attack

I developed bursitis in my right hip and had to much pain using the foot pedal. I changed to left foot but that wasn't very smooth. I started using the start stop button and have adjusted to that. My speed adjust is just above the start/stop button so I can use it easily. In fact my last machine I bought , one of the reasons I purchased it, was because of the start/stop button.

Yes, and that's why I didn't like the one on a Brother machine I had. Just wish a presser foot lifter was a button or a pedal!

When I applique I need both hands on my work and sometimes go one stitch at a time, so I use the pedal. I am very interested in the advantages of the start/stop button because lots of you use it, and I don't want to miss out.

I really enjoy using the foot pedal for slow sewing then racing as I go down an easy seam. It's all about preferences. Like many others I am really enjoying the pressure foot lift when you stop sewing with the foot pedal. I'm not sure you have that function with the button. It's especially helpful with Paper Piecing.
I am with Barb. I just can't keep things nice and straight otherwise. Maybe just me, but it seems a lot easier with both hands on your work. Note that I do have a Bernina so I have a knee lift for the presser foot which makes life even easier.

Foot pedal. I accidentally hit the Start button once. It was scary because I had the machine speed high.

My machine has a pedal but I have used friend's machines that have the start stop button. I'd much rather have the button than the pedal! When I trade up the machine I want has the button!

I use my start/stop button only when I am embroidering. I use the foot pedal the rest of the time as I feel I have better control of the speed I am sewing.
