If I can't store them on a bed, I fold them and keep them in a pillowcase on the shelf. However, I don't fold them "square", I fold them on the diagonal to prevent permanent fold lines in the quilt. I read this in a quilt magazine a looooong time ago, can't remember what magazine.

I use my oversized suitcases (have 3 very large ones) to store quilts in. I use as many as possible on chairs, couch, etc, and I do keep a certain number on shelves in my sewing room, where they do not get any direct sun light. I also keep 6 or 7 in a glass quilt display case. I have 3 antique quilts I keep in an acid free box.

I haver some PVC poles that I bought at a quilt shop eons ago. They're staggered & you can drape your quilts over them & then hang them in my spare closet (under the stairs). I've also stored them folded in white cotton pillowcases.

I WISH I had this problem. I have yet to make a quilt I can keep!!! In fact, more of my quilts are out of the country than are in!

    I need my own quilt.

As soon as this chemo quilt is done so I can send it off to my friend in need.
... and the baby quilt going to England for my pregnant step-daughter
... and the "house" quilt for same step-daughter

And if anyone else gets married or pregnant they're just SOL!!

I read of someone who hangs her quilts on pants hangers, then puts on a rod in a spare closet, that way there are no sharp folds, just loopy folds. She doesn't pack them tight, so they still breath and stay uncreased. Large quilts wouldn't work this way of course.

Right now all of mine are on display.

However, my friend bought the storage containers from IKEA. The are cloth with a zipper around the top and can hold more than 1 quilt and fit nicely on a closet shelf.

I love to go to her house when she refolds them.
