I was watching Fons and Porter quilt show this morning and one of their tips from a reader was using a belt hanger for her rulers. The belt hanger has different solts so you can divide your rulers to size. She got it at a bed and bath store.

Not original with me, but this works great. Take an old shallow drawer (or just make a shallow box) and cut slots at a 45º angle on the opposite sides. Space the slots evenly at about 1.5" apart. Hang the box on the wall above your cutting area with the slots angled up, of course. Then simply slide the rulers in. The long rulers will probably fit across using a slot on each side of the drawer and the shorter ones may or may not fit across but are still safely up and out of the way. This doesn't work for the big square up rulers, but they can be hung on the wall below the slotted box. I recommend a "dry fit" before the permanent placement.

They had wooden dowel style 'plate racks' at the .99 store. Soon as I saw it I knew that I could use it for my rulers. Because the dowels are set further apart I can store several sized rulers in each section and one section I use for patterns.

I have a wire file organizer that I use for my 12 1/2 inch ruler and I find that it's easy to reach. For my smaller rulers, 6 inch, 6.5, 6 x 12 inch, I use a napkin holder, it keeps them upright and within easy reach, so I recycled something I might otherwise have thrown out. I have been using this method for quite some time and it seems to be working well. Now all I have to do is remember to put them back when I am done using them. lol.

I have a good sized peg board on my wall. Have every last one of my rulers hanging there. When we put it up and I was putting the rulers on it, I was shocked at the number of duplicate rulers I have. Bought because I couldn't find the one(s) I had. What a waste of money. That doesn't happen any more.
