I have plans to do this one, too. I just bought the GO! dies for it. I'll be interested in the comments!

Yes, me too. It’s on my bucket list. But I don’t know if I can start another quilt when I have too many half done. I bought the ruler for a Storm at Sea. It sits there looking at me. There are so many different colorings of the quilt on Pinterest.

I made a small one using some templates from Marti Michell. They worked well, although I still found it hard to match up the points. Take your time and you should be fine.

If I ever decide to try the Storm at Sea quilt, I'll paper piece it.

For me the only answer is paper piecing (lol). Here is one that I made for my DIL Not a traditional pattern but fun to do,

I think Storm at Sea is a common bucket list quilt -- it was certainly on my list for a long time before I made mine. It's a lovely pattern and I think fun to make.

I used traditional piecing methods, I would advise being careful on the long skinny triangles around the large diamonds however you do them. I carefully pinned and sewed all my connections wrong, carefully took it all out, went to fresh sides and proceeded to make the same mistake again!! Argh. Paper piecing is perfect for at least that unit.

I made the top some 20 years ago, I was visiting and saw it displayed over a railing and got a quick digital picture. I extended the points into the border for the "Stars at Sea" variation.

I used paperpiecing when I made mine years ago. It was very precise and turned out perfectly. I've since purchased the Accuquilt dies and will probably use them to make the next one.

Default Storm at Sea was my first official quilt

Made as a wedding gift for son and DIL.
While it was being hand quilted - not by me - I was told the points were perfect. Granted it was larger than regular (18" blocks as I recall) but I thought it was fun to make. I'd sewn for years and found my skills transferred well.
DH drilled tiny holes in my templates to mark the intersections for the points. I pinned carefully. It worked.
Sorry this is the best picture I have of it.
