    I hate picking up a fat qtr or piece of fabric with a chunk cut out of it. If I need a 4x4 square, I just cut a 4" strip and put what I don't use with the fabric. I find when I go back to cut another size that it makes it easier not having to straighten the fabric and most of the time I try to leave the selvage in tack as long as possible.
