Your quilt is beautiful ,very colorful. I would put a 4" border of darker blue. My sister and mother made a scrap quilt multi colors and patterns, bordered it in a deep red. Not only did it set the quilt off but all the reds in the quilt seem to stand out more.

Whew! Thank you everyone! With all of your great suggestions I'm thinking maybe a 2" inner border of white + thinner border of the orange + wide jewel toned blue. OR same white inner + thinner blue and then wide orange. Then bind in whatever outside border is chosen, or black. Whatcha think?

this was almost exactly my thoughts too. I would use either a white or a black, thin inner border to frame and stop the scrappy quilt, then a piano key border, or if you think that is too noisy, a more simple border, like a 6"finished solid or read-as-solid fabric to further contain the scrappy center.

Thank you everyone. The reason I wanted to use borders is for some reason I started getting bored with the string blocks. Have no idea why though. I ended up making a 2 inch white inner border, 1 inch jewel-toned purple, 2 inch orange, and then finally a 5 inch outside border of the purple. Again, thank you for all of your wonderful suggestions. Hopefully I'll have it bound soon and can share the final result with you.
