Okay , here's the finished project. I put a small border of white with small dots of purple (granddaughter's fave color), teal, blue. She chose the big circle border, but thought she was helping choose for a lady here on the board when I showed her the pic I'd posted. When she unwrapped it she looked at me and said, "Grammy...that was you and not another lady wasn't it??". I laughed and 'fessed up.
I put double batting just behind the dolphins to attempt to look like trapunto, I outlined them in invisible thread. I quilted waves and swirls across it as well, used a matching blue. It's hard to see the quilting, so I probably should've done something else. But I'm not really very confident in my fmq. It is straight, it just looks a bit wonky from the way it's hanging. And the colors aren't showing up as bright in this pic. All in all, my dgd loves it, and that's what I wanted.
    Thanks so much everyone!
    Regards,

Precious quilt! I love the storyline of interaction with you and your granddaughter, too. You two are too sweet together. The helpfulness of folks on this board is wonderful to see, too.

You're a sneaky little grammy! What a fun surprise, and to know she chose the fabric means you KNOW she loves it. The waves are cool--subtle, just like real ocean currents that far out where dolphins play. I love the dotted border and the big circles framing the whole thing. Very cool.
