We packed ourselves and moved from CA to FL. I packed mine with my big wooden cutting boards, cookie sheets and cupcake pans. I stacked everything together, used blue painters tape to hold it together. Then I wrapped the bundle in my kitchen towels and stuck it in box with other linens.

When I am traveling in the car, I lay most of mine in a short sided cookie sheet in the bottom of a box and then put the rest of my sewing supplies on top. The gives the box a rigid bottom and moisture protection (just in case it gets set down in the wrong place). It also works as a tray for keeping them organized when I am working outside of my home.

All lmy long rulers and big square ones have a hanging hole. I slip the ruler on a hanger that has a piece of clothing on it and they are moved right along with the clothes in the wardrobe boxes used for moving. Those boxes are moved upright so no problem with weight being put on them.

I'm thinking maybe use a cardboard bolt and tie a ruler to each side with some selvedges. Then wrap that with a few layers of fabric and tie again with selvedges. You could tie down several rulers this way, keeping them all together , and put them in a mirror box or picture box labeled "fragile".
