Default Suggestions on what type of sewing maching to purchase.

Where on this site can I go to read everyone's suggestions on what type of machine to buy. Most of my quilting/piecing has been by hand. I have a Brother machine that I have taken to a few quilt classes, for Christmas my boyfriend brought me a gift ceritificate for a local sewing machine shop. I don't need/want anything with lots of bells/whistles just something easy to learn.

decide on what you want to do on the machine and then start looking. That will depend on the type. Also you will find that all of us have our favorites.

If your gift certificate is for a certain shop, you might go there first & see what they have available & take some fabric pieces & try each one out. Then come home & google that machine & maybe find reviews. You can search on the forum here by putting things like "which machine to buy" or something similar. I would choose a machine that has the up/down needle option for sure.

    Again ...

Fix on what your budget is to be. Is a used machine OK with you?

Make a list of what you want vs needs.

    Ask about service and lessons.

and MOST IMPORTANT: which machine do you bond with? If you don't bond with it you won't enjoy using it.

We all like different things and different machines.

Good advice, and for me, the up/down needle feature is a must have!
