I used the fusible interfacing method and pressed it on to the sq.and batting, then used a blanket stitch around it. I used a feather stitch or one of the many quilting stitches on my Brother ULT2001 thru the hat as a ribbon. will send a pic after i dig it up. yours is lovely and best thing ,no quilting needed

I have 2 versions of the blanket stitch on my machine. The one I like the most is a double stitch so it looks like hand embroidered.
I always stitch down my apliques when using steam a seam. I guess if it's going to be a wall hanging with no washing you might be able to get away with using the heavy heat and bond stuff.

I used Eleanor Burns pattern book, but I think if I did another I would use heat'n Bond and blanket stitch. I've never been able to do needle turned and her method is very much like needle turned only easier. IMO
