When my son was hurt in Iraq his first tour, he was taken to Balad and then flown home. He was given a quilt from someone in Iraq to bring home. Unfortunately it was lost in transit but he did say it meant the world to him to know that he was thought of.
My quilt group is making them for Quilts of Valor.
Some of you already know that my son is back in Iraq for the 2nd time and before that he was in Bosnia/ Afghanstan.
My daughter celebrated her 21st birthday there and now my granson just joined. Hopefully they will never get one of the Q of V.

I made a quilt for my son when he finished basic training, he took it to Korea, Irag, and the hospital when his daughters were born. I haven't seen it for awhile, but guessing it is well worn and loved.

I make "Patriotic quilts" for the "Snowball express that comes thru Dallas every year. And we make pillowcases to send to Iraq for troops. They get pillows and no covers. One batallion sent us a thank you card with their picture and each is holding his pillow. (heart palpatations). There are so many sites now to donate to. My dad was Army retired, My husband is Air Force, I have two sons who each served 8 years in the Army. I am definitely an army brat. Thank you to all the families of those who fight for us. Last summer we were out at the DFW airport with quilts for children and the Moms or dads would stop at out booth and we would film them on dvd saying something to their loved ones, then we would mail the quilt and the dvd to their children and wife. Some would read stories on the dvd for their children's night=night. I will continue to pray and support our troops every where.

i think i will have turned red, white & blue by the time november rolls around!

May God bless all of you that are making quilts for our soldiers. I can't wait until I feel like my quilting skills are worthy of one of our soldiers. (Don't say they don't care about the quality, you haven't seen my quilting yet LOL!) May God protect our soldiers and their families and may their sacrifices always be remembered and appreciated.

I have a list of items that troops in Afghansitan need and I am putting together a care package to send with some of the things. I think so much about those young men and women so far from home and wish they could all come home safely and back to their families.

A few years ago I tried to sign up as a pen pal on one of those sites to send thanks and greetings to soldiers, never heard from them. and I always checked my email to see. I would love to find a group out here that I could assist with making quilts or even pillow cases for our troops.

You can probably just Google "quilts of valor" if you're interested.

For those of us already quilting for kids, alzheimers' research, breast cancer support, and other worthwhile recipients, is there a veteran's quilting group that needs a cash donation? I can't quilt for everybody, but I'd like to commemorate my Dad's service in WWII as well as support our troops today. I know every little bit helps!
