I'm starting to quilt another chevron quilt for another of my grandchildren. My quilting will be simple straight line stitching in an angular pattern ....3 lines "up" and "down" in a "V" inside each chevron. To do this in the last quilt I simply stopped my stitching at the appropriate point, needle down and walking foot raised, swiveled the quilt to change my angle/direction and then "off I went". My question is...is there a better or "correct" way to do this other than how I was doing it? It got pretty bulky and awkward swiveling my work about and I was wondering whether there were any tricks or rules? I'm using a Bernina 710 with a 10 inch harp and the quilt measures 65" x 90". This is the only way to do it with a walking foot. The other alternative is to FMQ, but with straight lines, this is not easy.

I don't know of any other method. I have always pivoted my walking foot this way.

I suppose the only other way would be to stop stitching and tie off that thread, then go back and start the next line that would finish at the same point. Lots of tying off and if you bury your threads the way I do, lots of extra work.
