Graph it. Once you graph it on paper, you can then decide on the size of each square that forms the block. It is not that difficult. It is 8x8 squares. If you want a 16 inch block, each square would be 2" finished. If you want a 12" block, each square would be 1 1/2 " finished.
It would be easy to draft in any of the following sizes:
24 inch block (the corner square would be 3 inches, finished size)
20 inch block (the corner square would be 2.5 inches, finished size)
16 inch block (the corner square would be 2.0 inches, finished size)
12 inch block (the corner square would be 1.5 inches, finished size)
8 inch block (the corner square would 1.0 inches, finished size)
Sometimes it is easier for me to redraw a pattern on graph paper and add seam allowances than it is to look up a pattern in the size I want.
As far as that goes, if one wants to make a 2x2, 4x4, or 8x8 grid pattern in an odd size - say 13.25 inches - take a square of paper and fold it into the appropriate grid - and then draw in the lines.
