I am creating a table runner for Valentines Day. It is my own creation... my first pieced quilt. It is simple 4" blocks 3 rows wide. I have 2 sections each about 24" long with an embroidered section that joins them in the middle. I have directional prints and wanted both ends of my table runner to be correct for the person facing that end.. hope that makes sense!
I am wondering if there is a specific length the runners should be or if it's ok to have one run continually from end to end of the table.
I do understand the 'Quilt Police' aren't out in force here! LOL I am just looking for some guidelines. Thank you sew much for your replies.
Apologize for the mis posting in general chit chat

I make a lot of runners and they are always different lengths and widths. It all depends on the pattern I am using. Having said that, I try to keep them about 48-60 inches long.

Thank you for your input. I thought that probably it wasn't a really big thing but just don't want it to look awful after working on it so much. Thank you again!

For all intents and purposes - its whatever size you deem best, but there are a few somewhat standard sizes for particular shapes of tables and how many individuals can be seated. A lot of the ones I've made that are somewhat universal are 12x36" and 12x60" which seem to be a good happy medium for most people. However, I always take into account who its for and how big their table is. Bottomline, do what is most pleasing for you and compliments your particular structure, size and shape of the table you are making this for.

Explosive blessings, abundance and inspiration to you all!

i make my table runners to fit my tables, so what ever table i want one for i make it the size i want on that table. i know not much help...but if you check books and patterns they very from about 30" up to 72+" so...i think everyone just makes them the size they like. i have participated in many table runner swaps and have a wide variety in all kinds of shapes and sizes.

You can make any length that appeals to you. I have made quite a few for my sister and she likes them to hang off both ends of her table by about 6".

Others want them to sit on top and cover about 2/3 of the length of the table.

There are no table runner police :|

Well, maybe there are...but they haven't caught up with me yet. :-D
