A little late to the party, but have been amazed by the OBW since I first started quilting roughly 2 years ago. Cutebuns, could you please help me figure out how to cut this fabric? I purchased one piece that is 6 yards and then decided to buy the remaining 1.5 yards that were left after mine was cut. So I know I will have enough. The pic is of the 1.5 yard cut. I believe the repeat is 12.5 along the selvege. *shrugs*

I just bought the book myself - the larger the print the better, but not a lot of space between the figures/pictures - otherwise you end up with a lot of that empty spaces'color.
Go with fewer colors and bigger print size and it looks least like the original fabric. I'd go for the grapes and leaves.

I love the fabric. It is awesome. I would go with a max of four inch strip. Three would probably be what I would do. Really bold colors and a lot of color.

So count how many repeats you have and how many that you will use. Cut off the extra. Split the fabric lengthwise. So if you are using 12 or 18 repeats cut then in two or three repeat lengths and stack and start cutting.

Thanks Cutebuns!! Question: if i split the fabric at the fold, in theory I should be able to find another place for repeats on that side to make even more blocks from, correct? So if I wanted I could do 6 repeats of each "piece" of the fabric. Therefore conserving fabric? Would that work?

Yes it does. The second half doesn't always line up quite as nicely but if you fiddle with it a little it is totally usable. You split it most due to trying to work with the full width is just to difficult.

Is the one block wonder the same as a kaleidoscope quilt?

The OBW is a kind of kaleidoscope quilt - there are others. If you look here http://www.quiltingboard.com/virtual_section_list.jsp the differences are explained in the Topic List for these quilts. :-D
