Taste change in quilting since you started?

I'd like to say it's the same but the truth is, I look at patterns I've saved from magazines years ago and think 'what the heck did I save that for??' and it makes me wonder what others I should have saved instead. Even so, I'm planning to rip out the patterns I like from magazines rather than keeping the whole magazine anymore. Because I'm just about out of room.
One thing though-back then I bought all the country colors because that's what was in magazines the most and then I realized I like brights. So I need to use up all those older fabrics in gift quilts for people who do still like those colors.

I started with a wall hanging that I adopted from a full size quilt pattern. Then I created my own patterns, quilts and wall hangings.
Now I'm into following patterns already out there and getting excited about our LA coming soon to do the quilting as well as the piecing.
Still not into applique work. Maybe some day.

I love looking at the traditional quilt patterns but can't stand doing them. I get bored real quick and could never make 30-40 blocks that were all the same. I would never have finished one quilt. I like bright bold colors, and now that I have found the one block wonders, wow, doors have opened!!! But I love looking at all quilts and each one is unique in its own way!!

My tastes keep changing all the time allthough in colors country hues and blues stay favorite. I want to try new things all the time, so I make mostly small items like table toppers and such, otherwise they easily end up as UFOs.I must try applique, haven't dared so far. Started with PP and Mariner's compasses. Curves are also scary, shouldn't be since I've made my own clothes since I was a teenager. My late grandfather used to say I always start climbing a tree from the top down.

I find that I can think a little outside the box compared to when I first started. I'm so as afraid as I was to pick bolder colors and patterns. I do find I'm a little uppity when it comes to the quality of fabrics, though. I spend the time and money to go to the LQS and purchase a better quality of fabric than I used to. I am also completely in love with Batiks these days.

I started embroidering 12" blocks of muslin and turning them into quilts. Then I started on the pieced blocks. I still love the Samplers the best. I am working on one now with 48 blocks that I have NEVER tried before. Am having trouble already with "Lady of the Lake - II" If it doesn't work out, I'll just go to another one and at the end, I'll go back to the Lady and maybe it will work. I keep copies of the patterns and note each one with date made, what for and if there were any problems. I am not that keen on the art ones. I love the old fashioned quilts. But then, you never know. I just might try one and find I love it and go on a new adventure. Edie
