What a wealth of information! Thank you all. We've learned a lot of different options. Who has used the free half-square triangle print-outs from Block Central http://www.blockcentral.com/a-halfsq...glepaper.shtml
Are they accurate?
If so, I may start there.

I had trouble with Thangles years ago when I tried them. Maybe it was just me, but my papers always seemed to shift or something....they just didn't work well for me. I use other techniques now and they're more accurate. You just have to try different ways to see what works best for you!

*Has anyone made the Orion Star quilt with Thangles? I've never used Thangles, but the quilt looks beautiful.
Also, if you recommend the quilt, where is the best place on the web to purchase the Thangles pattern?*

If you google Orion Star quilt with Thangles you get several places you can order from. I have the packet and pattern and hope to make it as it is one of my favorite patterns. Thangles make it easier for me to come out with consistent HSTs. I made one without Thangles and it wasn't hard, but I had to be sure to keep squaring things up. I made mine lap size using only red and white, just as a trial, and I like it a lot. Good luck with yours and please show us when you finish it. :)

I would suggest the grid method for HST before buying anything.

My husband (who is also a quilter) and I made the Orion Star quilt as a joint project several years ago. It was not difficult at all. It was our only time to use Thangles and we liked them. We bought the pattern in northern MN at least 4 years ago

Here are some other choices.
WE have Rhonda here on our board who teaches us her way to do triangle squares (perfection)
---------------------------
here are two other ways.
http://www.sundaybestquiltworks.com/...iangleDemo.pdf
you can make up to 32 at one time depending upon size.
--------------

I add extra material if using June Taylor Ruler, With Rhonda's and stencils just do as directed.
I find if I use the stencils I still need to use the June Taylor Ruler. How ever, no papers and perfect half square & quarter square triangles every time.
All three really work.
