In Walmart's defense, I read today where they have agreed to comply with the requirement of mandatory employee health coverage wanted in the new health bill. Hope they mean it.

I do not shop Wal-Mart as I don't agree with their policies, so I don't support them!
Hmm, the Walmart nearest me is also very near a Joann's and have been the only store for miles around which has kept it's fabric dept. There seems to be no indication now that they are closing because they keep getting in new fabrics. Go figure that one out! :D

Our local WalMart has closed it's fabric department as it is also remodeling it's store. However, last year, I asked the salesperson in the fabric department if they were going to close and she said no way. I asked her if the fabric from other stores are sent to the stores that still have fabric departments? She said no again. However, she had a bunch of partial bolts to mark and put up that had just come in. This is what she told me, that they had just come in.

So, I would imagine that when a fabric departmentt closes down, the fabric is shipped to another store. You know they aren't going to just pitch the fabric or donate it, don't you?

The Walmart in my town took out the fabric dept. when they referbed but I have 2 new Walmarts within 20 miles of me and both of them put in fabric departments when they opened. There is also one a little farther away and it has a fabric dept., too. I am not sure how old that store is but has not been there very long.

A friend of mine who works in the craft dept. at Walmart told me that is how they are doing away with the craft dept.

I hate to see it go, as a lot of the elderly people in our area are not able to pay $8 10 $12 a yard for material at the local quilt shops.

Eleanor Burns has a lot of good sale fabrics, too. Her website is www.quiltinaday.com. Service is great too.

I live in Ellsworth Maine and they are closing our fabric dept in our new supercenter (we will only have a salvage place for fabric because of being in a rural area) but leaving it open in the new Bangor supercenter right by JoAnns. They are closing it in the Brewer supercenter which will be 20 miles from the Bangor supercenter,

I live in NY, also. Most of the Walmarts here have closed their fabric departments, and the ones that are still open, are saying theirs will close too. I have emailed and called the main offices several times, but they still are closing. I have even told them they will lose my business because of this. Luckily there is a Joann's store nearby. And I buy a lot online, too, now.
