I use the Angler 2 from Pam Bono. It goes out far enough to the front that I can line up a scant 1/4 inch very easily. My piecing is perfect when I use it.

I'm not even sure that there is a 1/4" foot that does a 1/4" seam (at least not for my machine. I either move the needle on the regular foot or eyeball on the 1/4"

it says you have width control, are you sure you can't move the needle to the right? if you can stitch a zig zag, you can usually move your needle. wish i was there with you! i could help you find the the 1/4" or scant!

I have Viking Lily 550 and it has that setting also. use it all the time.

I don't think I could piece without it!

this foot has the single hole..so if you move your needle to far, you could break the needle or worse, bend the shaft.

when you order/buy a foot for your machine, any machine, be sure to talk to a dealer..sew and vac shops usually sell attachments for machines that they sell. there are some great on-line shops that know what you need too..

    Brubakers is one:
    http://www.brubakerssewing.com/

i took the black bar off one of my extra 1/4" feet.

there is a foot called :"Clearview Quilting Foot" and Guide Set

i also have the "Other little foot"
It's wider than "original little foot".

"1/4" right side of foot lets you stitch perfect 1/4" seams. Wider left side ensures foot covers both feed dogs on newer machines with wider set feed dogs. Fits all older models with a center needle position. Marks let you stop 1/4" from cut edge for perfect miter points."

Janome and others make a wider opening 1/4" foot.

For those of you who are new to your machine:Please know if your machine is Low shank/high shank/or you can use a snap on,when ordering online . if you don't know, ask here!

Yes, according to April and others regarding this presser foot:

    http://www.april1930s.com/html/quart..._4__foot1.html

Look at the 2nd picture specifically and read her description underneath it. Here's what she says:

"There is the 'scant' 1/4 inch as you see in the photograph above... and then there is the exact 1/4 inch which the black metal guide helps to keep your seams perfectly in line and consistent throughout your entire project. You won't have to wonder anymore about whether your seams are accurate... and for me - relieves a bit of neck and eye strain because I have the assurance of stitching straight and perfect."

I just spoke with April at April's 1930's, and she assured me that you can achieve a scant 1/4" seam as long as you keep your fabric lined up with the metal edge of the right toe on this foot. The black guide is for a true 1/4" seam.

As we all know, there are always variables, such as the thread we are using, our fabric and even how we press our seams. No matter which method you choose to achieve your scant 1/4" seam, you should always measure it to verify that's what you're getting.

    Hope this helps,

    1/4 inch foot
