I use whatever is sitting around unless i think it will show, then usually white, tan, or gray. Like others, I try to use a darker color with darker fabrics.

joyce888, I had to stop crocheting with black thread/yarn with vision changes (age?)... happily I can see to knit it.

I piece with light or dark gray, and as long as my tension is correct, I never see it on the quilt. I imagine tans would work equally well. In a pinch in the middle of the night, I would try anything I have if I ran out of gray and beige!

I use cream, grey, tan for the top thread and white or black for the bottom for piecing -- though I do use up the left over bobbins if they won't show through the fabric. For the actual quilting I am a bit more picky.

I do this as well. I check the light & dark, pick out something already on bobbins (don't wind anything if I don't need to) and away I go!

I do all my piecing with Aurifil thread, either white, tan, black, or gray..........the quilting part I match.

I run my partial bobbins down by putting them on the spool and threading them through the needle.

This is especially useful when I have a partial bobbin left from quilting a quilt on my HQ16. I do try to use light threads for lighter fabrics, dark thread for darker fabrics if possible.

I use mostly white and off white, but like others, I have a lot of colored thread I'm starting to try to use up. But I do use up my colored bobbins on scrappy quilts.

I use white when I have white sashing or white fabrics. And I do use black on black and red on red fabrics.

I am with you. The quilting thread is the only one that matters.
