When I first got into quilting, my husband asked me, "How many quilts do you need." The answer was, "It's not so much the need, but the process to make it that I enjoy." He, now, is the one in the fabric shop bringing me bolts of fabric that he likes, mostly batiks, and incouraging me to buy 3 yards instead of the yard I was going to buy. My stash is quite large because of him.

Could it be that you haven't made him one yet and he's jealous? I say this because it became an issue with my DH & I this year. He was upset because everyone in the family got quilts except him. I made him one and he loves it! I haven't even added a label yet! LOL! He couldn't wait!

I don't have anyone to give them to, so I just stack them up. I come from a very small family, and I've already given to the couple friends I felt would like them. So my quilts never have a purpose other then me.

Quilting is Fun & Relaxing. NO, you don't have to get rid of them as soon as you finish. If you lack space to store them, just layer them under your mattress for storage. That's what my grandmothers used to do!

quilts are art. they might be useable art, but they are art. an artist does not paint "for" someone unless it is a commission. a quilt should be made just for the joy of it--for the colors, the "doing", the accomplishment. you're an artist. is he a fisherman? nest time he goes fishing, ask him who THAT fish is for. wood worker? ask him who THAT stick of wood is for. or he might never"get" it.
do it for the joy!

After 6 years of quilting my DH of 47 years just doesn't ask anymore but when he did I told him it was for me. When he had heard that for the 50th time he gave up. I got some heavy duty clothes hangers and hang the quilts in a spare closet until they find a forever home (or not). I've caught him showing them to his friends. :)

I make each quilt because I like the pattern. They are made as gifts for the grand children as they get married.I have 17 grand kids and about 6 quilts made so I have this as my excuse to keep quilting but when they are completed I will keep on just because it is my pleasure and not worry about who will receive it. It was made just because....
