I use the trick of slanting the light source across the fabric. And, I wear pair of close-up, reading glasses to enlarge what I am seeing. I just get a pair of cheap reader glasses. I can, also, feel where I've been with my fingers. Do you wash your quilts after you sew? If yes, then use a bar of soap to mark where you have been or where you plan to sew. If you are not going to wash, then try the tailor's chalk, or I wonder if the street/backboard chalk would work. I don't think I would use a color without testing it by washing it. The last thing you want is to find whatever dye they put in clings to fabric. I hope you post a picture.

If you want the stitching thread to show more prominently, then it seems like removing the thread you've used and using a different color would solve the problem.

Otherwise, the suggestions for lighting might help.

I heard a tip on Fons and Porter show...and it worked. Put a safety pin in the middle of a block (or an area of quilting) that your finished with and then you know you've been there. It worked for me very well.

So far I can only SID & had this problem with the thread blending right in so I put a small safety pin across each line I needed to SID & took it out when I was stitching that line, it sure saved me from searching over & over where I had stitched already. Thankfully it didn't take me long to figure that trick out as it was a queen size on DSM

I had that happen once and quilted from the back. Anything i did on the front didn't help, marking, pins, tape.......nothing.

Veriegated threads are tricky.....if fabric is too busy it disappears...did you audition thread/s before starting.......if you are talking about not seeing ...less light better than more...when I use white thread on white bkgrnd I put a black light in my L/A.....
