When I've pieced a special top, before batting and quilting it, I write my name and the quilt's name on a seam allowance in a lower corner block with pigma pen. You can't see it, but I know it's there. This is really more to identify my quilt if the need ever arose, as I've had one stolen before.

I have begun to machine embroidery my name and date right on to the backing of the quilt using the same color thread as the fabric before attaching it to the quilt.
Once the quilt is quilted it stitches over the name (but does not cover it).
If you glance at the back of the quilt it is not noticable until you study it closer.
I also add a regular type label. Easy to see.
