    Usually on a screw up, it's the opposite. If your top thread is misbehaving, check the bobbin. If the bobbin is misbehaving, check the top thread. A good cleanout and a new needle (the right size) are musts. That's a given for embroidery, and it works for sewing and quilting,too.

    A vertical bobbin can adjust tension. Not sure about a drop in.
