    Default Thread color for piecing

I plan to machine piece a block with high contrasting colors. This time I am using a dark blue and white. What color thread would you choose. I am never sure what is ideal in this case.

That’s a hard one, I might go with medium grey.

I'd probably go with grey also. Mostly I use gray, taupe or beige for piecing.

That was also my thought. Or a grayed medium blue.

You might do some practice stitching on some scraps with various thread combinations and see which result you prefer.

I'll jump in and vote for a gray tone also.

I pretty much piece with what ever neutral is handy, grays or off white most often. Light on light colors, a little darker on darks. Since my stitches don’t show on a pieced block I don’t worry too much about it but I don’t want a really dark seam on a light block- just in case it causes some shadowing.

Another vote for a medium light gray. I use small stitches and my threads don't show. I did spend many years trying to match threads to fabric and ultimately decided it didn't matter as much as I once thought.

I do almost all scrap quilts where it is pretty impossible to match threads without going crazy. To help with my vision issues, I am typically threaded with a gray thread and a beige thread, one each top and bottom. When I wind bobbins I do 4-5 of whatever color and switch then when the bobbins run out.

I just made a quilt with blacks and solid white. I used white thread. Can’t see it in the seams.
