    yes--this will help you decide. Also, think about what you want to emphasis in your blocks--if the light is "background" I'd use the light thread and then it would stand out on the blue and lavender parts--or if you don't want the thread to contrast with the blue/lavender, then use a thread that blends with both---sometimes the choice of a non-matching color thread is exactly what you want--take your top to the store and try out some non-match thread color.

    I often use variegated thread when FMQ, as I think it adds a new dimension to the quilt, just pick one that has the colors used in the quilt.
