I have always thought that for hand quilting you should use one of the threads made for hand quilting, the ones that are glazed or waxed, YLI,Guterman, Mettler, and the like. Recently I've been reading about using some of the heavier weight threads like aurifil 28wt. or sulky 30wt., have any of you used these threads for hand quilting? What did you like or not like about them? Thanks!

I have used several different quilting threads, and not always glazed. but the ones that are not glazed, I run through bees wax.

I like the glazed Guterman threads...they seem stronger and tangle less. I don't know how easy a heavy weight thread would be to quilt with.

I like to use the 100% cotton thread, but it is sometimes hard for me to find. Most thread is nylon covered with cotton. I too run some of it through bees wax. I have never done anything but hand quilting, to me that is the best part. Trying to get a top finished now to place in floor frame. Try to keep a small lap quilting project going also. Quilting by hand is so relaxing to me. No quilt shop within 50 miles of me, so when I go I try to stock up on all kinds of quilting thread in all colors. Ninnie

I use 30wt 100percent unwaxed cotton - I used to wax it but don't anymore - just cut shorter lengths and have no problem with tangles.

I use 100% cotton hand quilting thread. It tangles less and is designed to go through the layers hundreds of times.

It comes in lots of colors, so you can find something to suit your needs.
You can even change colors so your stitches are quite so obvious if you're still learning.
