    Default Thread

I am new to Long Arm quilting and this is my problem. My top thread upon starting to quilt is sometimes balling up on the bottom just at start. Why sometimes does this and not other times. Looking ugly on bottom side. What to do.

do you draw up your bobbin thread & hold both top & bobbin threads on top of the quilt as you start stitching? hold onto the top thread- put your needle down, then back up-it will 'hook' the bobbin thread and draw it to the top- pull it out so you have both thread ends- then take a few stitches- then you can cut off both threads.

I agree, you need to bring your bobbin thread to the top of the quilt.

I don't have a long arm, but I do this for all piecing and for quilting on my domestic machine.

thank you ladies, I do pull up my bottom thread but it seems sometimes the threads are not locking in like they should. I will keep trying.
