I have a Pfaff 2170 and am learning how to use it. My question is, which threads will work best with it? And where is a good source for them? Where I am Robinson Anton is very popular. I also just learned that it's necessary to use 60 wt. bobbin thread when using the embroidery thread. Is it better (cheaper) to wind your own bobbin or buy the pre-wound ones? I want to make an ABC quilt with embroidered letters. Thanks for any opinions or advice.

I like prewounded for my embroidery machine. They last a lot longer because it is usually filled better than when I do it myself.

I bought some robinson anton thread and the thread fibers seem to move down the thread and collect in the bobbin where the thread comes out causing the thread to break in the bobbin. So I am not very happy with it at all tho I am still trying to use it considering I have several spools of it. I agree wind your own bibbins I bought some prewound and I can't figure out where the thread starts.

Thank you so much for your input. Since I changed the needle the machine is behaving better and I'm thinking the threads I have may be okay. I will use my coupons to get some Sulky bobbin thread (40 wt. I hope) and wind my own, since I have that cute little bobbin winder in my drawer.

Ok you only mentioned embroidery. If you are making something that will not be washed a lot the Rayon threads are greatand they do seam to have a bit better shin, but it you are going to was a lot more like a blanket or kids clothes you should use the polyester threads fr the rayon ones will dull with washes and not wear as long.
You can use many different threads on your machine... you just have to use the right needle with the right thread for the fabric you are using. Cotton embroidery thread is so nice for tes towels too. Looks more natural woth the cotton towels.

Pre wound Bobbins are good for machine embroidery but dont use for reg sewing. It is a fine threads so you don't get the build up on the back of embroidery work.

Thank you for the info. I'm making an ABC quilt for an energetic boy (read will need lots of washing), so knowing about the difference between rayon and polyester is very helpful.
