Yes, yes, YES! It's called thread trash and I have mine all stored by color just like most everyone else stores their scraps! Great stuff!! Oh, and the matching colored dryer lint, too, don't forget that!

I put my fabric in lingerie bags and I don't have a huge problem with strings.

I run my fabric through the overlocker before washing - I wash all my fabrics - and this solves the problem!

You can also fold the fabric in fourths lenthwise, then zig zag across both ends. A long narrow zig zag stitch will work fine. Just trim it off before pressing. :D:D:D

I prewash everything. Allergies. Strings come with the territory. I just take my snips with me to the laundry room and snip as they come out of washer. The strings go in my string cup that goes to LQS for stuffing animasl pillows for shelter. Do not feel I am loosing as much any way.

trim the edges with pinking shears (or you can buy a pinking blade for your rotory cutter) pinked edges will not fray

Not a bad idea if you have to prewash. If you sew with a small enough seam allowance, you could just trim it all off when it comes out of the dryer. So you lose 1/4", not a big deal. You'd probably lose the same amount if you serged around the edges.

Of course, I never prewash so it's not an issue. ;)

If I need to prewash, I surge the ends.

Wow, I didn't know 'pinked' edges wouldn't fray. I don't have a serger - would a "zz" stitch work just as well?

I cut mine with pinking sheers too and it stops fraying.
