    What works for me ........

    I baste the two cut sides of the piece of fabric before washing and drying..

    Seems to do the trick for me.

    Quilting friend told me to surge the cut sides when I get home from store, then wash! Not only do you not have strings-you can ALWAYS tell if the fabric has been washed. (Personally-I soak in hottest TAP water in kitchen sink, ring our good and put in HOT dryer. I use green painters tape on fabric that is NOT washed right away.) It also depends on how much fabric you are washing @ one time...

    I surge those cut ends and it does wonders. No ravel threads.
