I believe most of the holes will disappear if not too large. What a find!

I looked at the four in question for selvages (don't see any but would I know what selvages on fabric that old looks like?) and on two of them I can almost see and definitely feel where the holes are. The other two I can't. One does have a piece of a label caught in the frayed edges - it has white background and pieces of two large black letters.
Sounds like they are probably feed sack. Especially if the fabric is coursely woven like the others.

I am not sure when this started; I think 30's. Farm wives would buy chicken feed in these pretty cloth bags. When they had enough of one pattern they would make clothes, curtains, etc. from them. I'm sure a lot of people on this board wore clothes made from feed sacks and you see a lot of the fabric in vintage quilts. (If this is not correct someone will surely correct me).
I remember the flour sacks. My gram bought flour that way and she would save them. I think I was about 6 years old and Gram made me a dress using two different sacks. One was green with tiny flowers and the other was yellow with tiny flowers. That was ages ago. Aren't thrift stores neat for treasure hunts? Great find for you.

They carried feed (chicken and cow feed) in these sacks. Like the other person said, they came in different patterns and colors. Mama would try to get enough of each pattern and color to make our clothes. When I was in the 6th grade, she made me a dress that I thought was the most beautiful dress I had ever seen. "All from feedsacks" I still have some of the feedsacks from way back then. The fabric lasts forever.
What a wonderful story and memory!!!

I still get my flour in the flour sacks & when I have enough built up I plan on making a quilt out of nothing but the flour sacks. I make sure I get a different color pattern each time I buy my flour. I am getting close to having enough for a quilt.
You are very lucky to get a hold of the feeds sack fabric.
