I started doing a x with chalk on the wrong side of the fabric when I first started sewing. That's back when Mom was teaching me how to make clothes. Why have I never thought to do that in quilting?? what a duhhh moment for me!!

I also learned the chalk trick from my mom. Thanks for this great tip.

I use very little white on white, I just do no like it, it looks and feels like plastic has been applied to the fabric to me.

When I sew with fabrics hard to see, I place them on the table all face up or all face down and when I use them I pick it up the same way and put it in my fabric the same way...mechanical repetition...and try not to screw up...recently though I put a little piece of a label on the fabric face...so when I sewed the labels had to be looking at each other...

I recently made valences for my kitchen. I had the hardest time seeing the difference between front and back of fabric for the lining. I will remember your idea!

I was taught to lay the piece of fabric on my arm or knee to check right/wrong side. Sounds silly, but try it--it really works!
