Thanks, they are turning out so different from each other and from the starting fabric. Not sure how these will go together though. I think I have 90 blocks cut (sets of 6) - I won't cut anymore now until I get those sewn together and see where I am at then. Still have enough fabric do to a few more if I need them.

Do you think I could do a combination of the two different ways (if i have enough fabric)? Or avoid the green stripe? I had thought originally of tearing the green stripe off one edge to use for a border. I have a little over 6 yards.

you could definitely use it for a boarder and save what you maybe if you straddle it as well you will get some interesting blocks, it also depends on how big you plan of cutting to what they will end up looking like,

Is there a rule of thumb for larger prints for size? I guess I need to find my triangle and see what looks good. I was thinking around 3 1/4 just eyeballing it. If I go with 3" cuts I'll have about 8 strips between the repeat.

the biggest thing is that you don't want to hit the repeat evenly, you want to see mainly one color in some of the blocks, there really isn't a magic formula, it depends on how much of the print that you want to see in each block. it really depends on what you want to see in each of the pieces. obviously there is advantages to cutting bigger blocks like less sewing, the smaller ones can make it easier to have similar or close to the same blocks.

Thanks for all your help. You're so patient. I think this initial setup is the hardest part, especially not having done it before.

    I'm off to bed . . . grandbabies in 5 1/2 hours.

Hey - I understand what you just said, even at this hour. :-) that'll help me figure out the size by watching how the colors fall together. Does it help sometimes, when you're cutting your second "pile" of repeats to cut of a small strip off and stagger the point that you're using for the repeat point? Did that make sense? I know it probably creates some waste but is it worth it for the final results?

I am the mom of three teens, patience should be my middle name, but it isn't, This is the hard part especially with the first one that you do, now every time you see fabric you will be looking to see if it would make a good one. It is addictive, and it is relatively fast once you get it down on what you need to do,

How tall are your triangles? You should have a good number to play with once they get sewn together. I just finished sewing my half hexs together into strips. This is my 4th OBW. I was just trying to figure out how big an area your 90 blocks will cover. My blocks were cut from 3.5" strips and 90 of them would be about 50" X 50". Do you have a planned finished size in mind? Looking at your pics., yours seem larger than mine.
