Well Diane, I hope you're right. I have deadlines galore, and didn't need this delay. I still don't have week 8 done for my jane stickle, and I wanted to be at least 2 weeks ahead! Oh well.

I've just ordered background fabric for my black&cream. It's being shipped from the U.S., so it'll take a little while. Playing with the big and small blocks...

I love the look of the two sizes together - I THINK I lean towards preferring the first one. Can't wait to see how you do this.

And here's a first layout for my second fabric. I wasn't sure how it'd turn out, the repeat is small (under 6'') and it's all tone in tone, not at all what Maxine Rosenthal recommends... But I kind of like the subtleness of it.

Sorry about the shakiness - I was balancing on a chair holding the camera above the layout. :) How I envy all you folks with design walls!

I like the subtleness of it too! And have you seen Maxine's red quilt in the book? Can't remember what she calls it, but that's pretty subtle too. Anyway it works - I love it! And you be careful up on that chair!

Heh yes, I'd like to know how I'll do this. :? I suspect the fitted look may give me more of a headache than I want at this point, if I'd planned this I could have made hex sizes that work well together... as it is, the only way I can think of is appliqueing it all onto the background. Ouff. I've just done the applique thing with another big hex shape (English paper pieced, not an OBW) and I had intended this to be a quick and easy break from my long slow toil! Oh well... :-D

No haven't seen the first book yet. Only glanced through the second, and was glad we have Cute to teach us instead.

Are the quilts in the first one worth it, would you say? A red quilt sounds great, I love reds.

I don't think you NEED the first book if you have the second because all the info is in there plus the cubes. But I have them both because I have a thing for books! There are lots of pretty quilts in there though, yes. I've been peering at your first one and appliqué seems to be the only way. I guess it would have pieced if, as you say the hexs were appropriate sizes, eg one exactly half the size of the other. I'd have to draw it out though for it to make sense to me!

In a month, you will have passed your other deadlines and forgotten all about the piece you replaced. Honestly it will all work out for the best. :D

Salmonsweet, I LOVE your black and white hexs!

I was wondering if you like the second layout better if you couldnt finish up the large hexs and then do the same with the smaller hexs only in strips... like a border???
it would look much more structured (might be a bad thing) but the math would be easy and you wouldnt have to applique.
