I am challenged when it comes to making patches and that they all match up. :( :( :shock: :cry: :roll: :?

Tips on what to do to improve your accuracey when stiching :D :D

You need to look at the cut edges of your patches as you are sewing on the machine - instead of watching the needle. By focusing on the
edge of the fabric, and making sure that it lines up with your
1/4 inch seam allowance marking. It is a better way to watch to see if you are going straight and accurate.


Pinning a seam that is longer longer than 2 to 3 inches is a good idea. Pin not just at the beginning or the end. That will help with stabilizing the fabrics, and you will be more likely to sew both fabrics an even 1/4 inch away from the edge.


When sewing angled, pointed pieces ( diamonds or
triangles), start with the wide end first. That way, the skinny
tip is less likely to get eaten by the feed dogs.

When you chain sewing, start with a scrap of fabric. Good way to start.

When I'm trying to match seams and the seam allowances aren't pressed in opposite directions or if seam allowances are bulky, I sometimes pin and baste a few stitches, just where the seams will hopefully match, check to be sure I like it, then stitch the whole seam with the normal stitch length. If it's not right, it's a lot easier to remove a few basting stitches than the whole row of normal stitching.
