    How about a large Mariners Compass in the center and then frame it with a not so busy design etc..
    I love what you have done except for the center, it definitely over whelms the eye.

    Why not put the same circle/star you have on the four sides in the middle, but larger? They are so beautiful.

    I like this one best....what do you think about putting one of the stars in the very center. It just looks a little too busy. Then figure out a way to lead into that center square. Maybe keep the yellow with stripes coming into the center and go a little plainer on the "corner squares" of the center. I'll be sure to mark this so I can see what you decide. It will be beautiful, I'm sure! The last version with large pieces looks a little off to me. (sorry) I know it'll 'come to you' and it will work out great! :)
