At least I am not the only one! Supposed to rain tomorrow and cool down to the 70's for the weekend....sewing room, here I come! To be fair, we usually don't have overly hot weather up here. Just a week or so, then mostly 70's or 80's. Fans usually work well to keep things comfortable. I guess I am just grumpy. Can't wait to retire to northern Maine! Yes, winter gets below zero and can stay there for a while, but the summers are usually a lot more tolerable than in other parts of the country.

Thanks for all your comments! I am not so grumpy now knowing I am not alone.

I am lucky to not be working or attending school right not.

I work on my projects early in the morning, around 6 am until I get too hot and late in the evening.

I am lucky that it is not humid where I live.

I also sew downstairs, which is 1/3 underground, but with big windows, so it is quite a bit cooler than upstairs.

I do have window air conditioners, but I do not like the feel of air that has gone through an air conditioner. So far this year I have not put them in the windows. I do have a window fan that blows over me at night and so far I am comfortable.

I find that having a swim in the late afternoon cools my core and I do not feel as hot as I did before my swim. I generally swim in the ocean, but sometimes the lake where the water is a bit warmer.

Yeah, I hear you all as I don't have air conditioning either.
The best I can do is sit in a cool water bath to cool my core temperature down.
At night I run the portable fan; first I wet my head down before bed and then keep a wet rag on my hip/legs. With the fan pointed right at me, this seems to keep me cooler as it hasn't been less than 88 in my bedroom for the last week. In general I sleep better in a cool bedroom better than in the heat.
Quilting is the last thing on my mind on days like this.
Can't wait for the heat to break.

Maybe your local fabric stores or quilt shops have sew-ins in their shops? Good luck.

You are not the only one.

I can sew, but not quilt, when it is hot in my sewing room. It is just too uncomfortable. So I make tops in the summer, generally, unless we get a cool spell, and finish them in the winter when it is cooler.

It's been pretty hot here in Missouri too - too hot to sit at the machine - too hot to quilt - I had to put it away for a short time - maybe one needs the break?

......kerosene heater in winter! Aren't those dangerous? I would opted for an electric heater..no fumes!...and buy an extra window unit for the too hot to enjoy, sewing room....even if it's used 1 day a year, isn't your well being worth it? I shutter to think how some keep warm in the freezing cold of the winter......

I am putting the bind on a quilt that was made and hand quilted by Steven. He died this spring and couldn't finish it. I put the quilt in its box on the floor next to my chair and brought up just the edge I wanted to work on to my lap. Not much quilt on me. Then when it was my turn to square dance, I could just drop that into the box and go.

Sorry I thought this would go next to your post.
I had trigger finger in my thumbs, the Dr. shot cortisone in them and that helped. 2 rounds. I also wrapped that elastic tape around my knuckles to keep them straight. In a pinch you can use a Band-Aid. It stopped after a while.
