Our guild did this for our service project last year. We used the pattern found online for Ginormous Beach Bag. This is a simple bag, very adequate for lots of stuff and looks good, too. The contact person at our county human service really appreciated the bags. Its so shameful that kids facing such a trauma as being placed in foster care get further pain by having their only belongings treated like garbage.

dove1615, thanks for the info for this bag. Going to make some for a domestic violence shelter that can house up to 40 people. They have a need for these cuz when they leave they have nothing to pack up their belongings, especially the kids.

Some foster kids in my area that have reached 18 will come to speak to many of the groups that help the foster kids. They all say when they left their foster families they left with nothing from the family but clothing and usually those stuck in a bag, even those that were given a nice bag! Not one child said they would ever go back to visit any of the foster parents they had. This really put the foster care in a bad light in our community. DCHS here isn't co operative with the groups that want to help either. We still keep donating and helping.
