Tote Pattern
#11
Kathy, I sent you a PM for same. BAG - You can use 5" charm pack - minimum 47 squares, walking foot, 2 yds lining, zippers (I used 4)each end and both side pockets, stiffening felt for ends and sides or other fabric, 1/2 yd co-ordinating fabric for handles, button for flap closure. I had a piece of plexiglass 9" x 17" cut for bottom of bag, and made cover for same, leaving open on one end for washing(use some of the coordinating fabric to make cover for plexiglass.)
6 squares across top of bag x 3squares down - make like "T" shape with four centered for bottom, make two of these and stitch together done each side and along the bottom. You should have four sq's - each front, 2 x 3 down each end, and 8 on the bottom. Place closure flap centered on back of bag, and button on center front, with buttonhole in flap and button to fit thru buttonhole. Your straps 3" x 24"
NOTE: BEFORE YOU SEW UP THE SIDE SEAMS AND BOTTOM SEAMS FOR OUTSIDE OF YOUR BAG, LAY OUT YOUR LINING FABRIC, ALLOWING FOR ZIPPERED POCKETS, USING THE OUTSIDE FRONT OF YOUR BAG AS YOUR PATTERN.
PLACE YOUR STRAPS evenly between the squares on the front and back side on the left and right sides-ON EACH SIDE (STITCH THESE DOWN BEFORE YOU PUT IN YOUR LINING, AS YOU WILL AGAIN STITCH OVER THESE STRAPS ONCE YOU PUT IN YOUR LINING) You will want these staps stitched very well, so they do not come apart from the stress of carrying your bag.
Hope this helps you with the contruction of your bag, my instructions are from memory of when I made my three bags.
