I made a half sized version. If you make each individual block with consistent colors, when you put them all together, it looks great.

That's about as scrappy as one can get! But, fascinating too. I went to site all people quilt and downloaded the pattern and began reading instructions.....1 1/4" strips....I don't think I've ever done anything that small....but there's always a first time... All I can envision if doing this is a roomful of pieces of all kinds/colors of fabric to get this "random" scrappy look. There must be a way of doing this without having the room " throw up". How did those who did this manage?

What a beautiful quilt! I am always worried about making a scrap quilt because I don't think it will look good in the end but this pattern seems to work well.

A very good question, Geri B.

That sounds like a great idea, Becky.

Neanie, I really love your colors. I have a lot of reds, blues and creams, so your quilt really gives me an idea of how mine might look. Thank you very much for posting a picture.

I was thinking about doing something similar but maybe making it a bit larger than 1/2 size. What size did yours finish out at? I was thinking about making mine 9 blocks across & 11 blocks down by eliminating the last 3 bottom rows of blocks & the last 3 right side column of blocks. I know that would change the look of the criss-crossing a bit but it still should look good. How many did you use across & down?

I am currently working on my second Trail Mix. Both were part of a group exchange with 6-8 friends. We exchanged blocks every few months with the only requirement that there were no more duplicates than the number participating and that the trail be prominent using white, off-white or beige tone-on-tones. Some pieced their block sections using a strata method but I wanted to use up my very small scraps. At the end of the swap we put our quilts together and interestingly 5 of us brought our quilts to a yearly retreat to cover our beds. I still have mine and love it. I encourage you to just have fun. We decided to do it as a group project to get as many different fabrics as possible. We did keep the large scale prints to a minimum and used fabrics similar to the pattern.
The one we are currently working on is for Christmas and uses reds, greens, golds...could use fabrics other than Christmas ones. We are now making the last blocks and hope to have it completed for Christmas.

My quilt is 8 blocks x 10 blocks. I just turned the pattern on its side to assemble my quilt top, so my quilt is only as long as the pattern is wide. I believe the final size of my quilt is 62" x 74"
