Thanks for the suggestions, I will try to find those threads. Still learning my new machine so I will have to try and adjust the tension. I don't speed while quilting so I didn't think would be a problem and it worked beautifully on two blocks. The third wouldn't sew at all so I couldn't figure out the problem. Maybe my needle was too big, will try a smaller one.

I have a bit a further question...How do I keep the transparent thread in the bobbin from stretching? I use Superior. and it seems tight.

Wind the bobbin *slowly*; that helps hold down the stretching. Metal bobbins are best because they are unlikely to distort from the extra pressure from this type of thread. With either metal or plastic bobbins, it's best to fill only 3/4ths full so as not to distort the edges of the bobbin.

I have used YLI in the past and not had any issues. However I noticed that Superior's is a polyester rather than a nylon so I tried it and haven't to say it is my favorite so far.

I use lots of different brands of invisible thread.. All of them need some distance from the machine to work well. I also use a much smaller needle when I use invisible thread on batiks. The large needle size just is not needed for the fine thread.... and the larger holes a large size needle makes on batiks does not close up because of the tight weave.

I took a class with Harriet Hargrave several years ago, and she recommends the YLI. At the last Houston Quilt Festival, I took a machine applique class with Karen Kay Buckley, and she sells YLI .004 thread in her on-line store. It comes in clear and also in smoke, if you are doing dark colors. Also, she recommends using a 60/10 needle, as it makes a much smaller hole. I wind my bobbins with the bobbin winder on my Bernina, which winds at one speed -- fast -- and haven't had any problem with stretching. This is the class project.

Took all your suggestions, smaller needle, thread tension adjusted, thread away from machine on separate spool and slowed down. Everything went great and all the blocks are now quilted. You guys are the best! Thanks!

Superior sells pre wound bobbins with their MonoPoly. They are wound with a machine that has perfect tension. Also they suggest using a topstitch needle. There is info on their website how to use the thread.
