I should add: If your mat is too thin the depth of the hole may not be enough to keep the pedal in there. My pedal came out so I cut strips from the piece of mat I had left over from trimming it down to fit the space, and glued the strips on the top of the mat all around the hole, to make the hole deeper. No more popping put of the hole.

I've taken to using my heel to press the pedal instead of my toes. I have a bar under my table that I rest my toes on (but books work too) and I press down with my heel. I don't have slippage problems and my foot fatigue is significantly less.

I sure do. Measure the space underneath your sewing table/desk. Buy an inexpensive door mat at the Dollar General, one that entirely fills that space. It can be larger and cut down to size, but not smaller. With that mat in place under your sewing desk, sit where you are comfortable sewing and determine the most comfortable place for your foot to operate the pedal. Leave the pedal in that place, and mark around it with a thin permanent marker or whatever works. Remove the mat and cut the pedal shape out of it on the marked line. I used a rotary blade. When you replace the door mat your foot pedal will fit into the hole and not slide around at all.

This is why I love my machines with the knee pedals. That being said, here is a picture of 2 of my pedal "hacks." The one on the left is screwed to the wood with sheetrock screws and the one on the right is attached to a mouse pad with brads- those paper fasteners where you bend the wings over.

,Where I sew is carpeted, so I put industrial hooks from “hook and loop tape”. It had its own adhesive. About once a month, I pick it up and use a tooth pick to clean the fuzz out of it so that it continues to stay in place. I picked it up at Walmart for a couple dollars. I love a cheap solution.
