"Taming it!" I love that - it felt like I was wrangling a wild beast through that machine with every line I sewed! But tame it, I did! (Clasped fists up in a show of victory.)

Maybe I should of said "learned how"......thats what quilting is,a continuous learning process. No matter how long you've quilted, there's always a new pattern, new way of sewing etc. That's what makes it so interesting, it's always changing, always different.....keeps our brains in a whirl. :-)

Congratulations on your win! Your grandson will absolutely love that quilt on his bed.

I live in San Antonio, and will only use the polyester batting, also. I made one quilt with warm and natural, and it was entirely too hot for down here, and now that quilt has become a folded decoration, so I know where you're coming from!

It looks like it turned out well. I, too, have had trouble with the higher loft battings. One I had to take apart and redo completely now I use a low loft batting for kids quilts. It makes them more washable.

Hi neighbor! San Antonio is just over a two hour drive from here. I'll be there in February for the music teachers' conference. I think you get a bit more cold than we do since we're closer to the coast. Our February conference has had icy weather about twice in the last 20+ years. :) Most of the time don't even need a jacket.

Had three-year-old grandson here today. Came in short sleeves and jeans and left in shorts when the temp got into the 80's. Last week had him in layers cause it was in the 30's and he doesn't own a coat - just some fleece jackets. No wonder we're all sick around here!

That may not even be what it's called .... I've heard at least 2 other terms for it on this board.

You put your top and backing right sides together and sew around 3 sides of the quilt (that's the pillowcase idea). Use the open side to turn it right side out. To finish - on the last (open) side iron 1/4 inch towards the inside. DO that to both backing and sides and either handstitch or machine stitch it closed.

I only leave about 1/3 of the last side open. Smaller area to turn it right side out through, but also smaller area to sew.
