trying to make the best of a BOM gone wrong
#11
Thank you, I will give that a try. I do believe before I rip it out, I am going to construct a couple of practice blocks and give those a go. If I can get the hang of that y-seam...
The oversized blocks will be a problem for another day.

Oh, that would be nice if it ends up being a typo! But for now, I am going to walk away for a day or two and clear my head after watching just about every video I could find on y-seams. I am just going to think about them a bit before trying again. Once I get that, I must figure out the mystery of the block that is supposed to measure 17.7 but comes out much larger for me. Am hoping once everything else is finished, I can work out that problem. I have never had a pattern I have attempted that I wasn't able to finish. If I don't figure this one out,, I won't rest until I do! I hate a puzzle I can't solve!

My quilt looks like the pattern picture I posted if you are about 20 ft away. LOL Up close it is a mess. It will never be in a show but it will be used every Christmas to hang on my porch. I love having a quilt hung on my front porch.

Possible solution
I made this quilt back in 2017 when it launched on Craftsy.
I remember mixing up the side setting triangles.
There is a Corner triangle that is to be cut from a 13" square once on the diagonal.
And a Side Triangle that is to be cut from a 13 3/8" square cut TWICE on the diagonal.
I only cut it once. opps.
Could that be what you did?
Also, selfishly, when you are done, would you be willing to sell me any of the leftover Taupe fabric you have from the kit?

Setting triangles require some exacting math: check yours against the standard formula to see if they are indeed the right size:

When I do a lone star, I will use hand stitching and basting machine stitches until I get it good enough. Then I can later machine sew with regular stitches on top if it is needed. Like some of the others, I don't sew all the way to the Y and it still seems to be durable. Then sometimes I make sure the quilting goes over those intersections to hold the in place from the top!

If you hate hand sewing, just sew an inch or two away from the point, and then you can machine stitch the rest of the seam.
That way, your corner will be okay -
