This was done with no quilting, just ironed each of the 1/2 inch squares on iron-on interfacing, then had it professionally framed. The picture is 36 x 36 inches.

I did a challenge quilt for our quilt guild. They were large flowers. A wall hanging about 40 X 40. I used pink tulle over the whole thing, because that's all I had at the time. Then I proceeded to thread paint the flowers and leaves and such. Turned out very beautiful. Wish I knew how to post a picture. Trust me. It works and you wont regret it.

Oh my! I think your portrait is amazing! I've never done anything like this so I wouldn't know. I am just impressed with your "drawing" talent!

Thank you for posting this I found some very fine tulle that is more of a blue gray and it works a lot better than the silvery white. I am still nervous about it but you have given me confidence to forge ahead! I know it will work out fine in the end

First-your First (!?!?!) portrait quilt is Amazing! Second-and for the record I have no personal experience-I have watched several interviews of accomplished portrait quilters and they all talked about the different effects you get with different types & colors of tulle, and all seemed to use it, at least partially, on most of their portraits. Sounds like a trip to a store with many color choices would be a good idea to at least see the different effects you get, for future quilts if you decide it's not what you're going for with this one. You have a great talent for portrait quilts!
