The metric system IS easier. A system based on 8's, 12's, etc. is crazy. I have decided I want new quilting rulers that are in metric. I am really fed up with this inch thing.

Me, too. I just got done cutting pieces that were 2 and 3/8th's x 8 and 1/2 and they just about drove me up the wall! I guess I should have converted it over to metric!

Use either the metric OR the imperial system for your measurements. You'll make yourself nuts converting everything.
If you need to invest in a "inches" ruler - just do it.
    You'll save yourself gray hairs.

Up here in Canada, we've been officially metric since the 70's
We still buy meat from the butcher in pounds.
We still buy quilting rulers with inches.
But we buy 'yardage' by the meter.
And we get a ticket if we go 20 kilometers over the limit.
    :)
