Default Turtle and fish quilt

I did this with some friends a long time ago and wasn’t sure I was happy with it. A new quilter friend in my new community suggested I frame and quilt it so that is what I did. I want to have more definition than I received for the sea weed and was thinking of quilting in a thicker thread with a strong color or couching yarn or a thick strand of embroider floss in a seaweed shape.

Also, I was thinking of adding some highlights of a sparkly green and blue thread in the sea weed area.

What are your thoughts? Any suggestions for quilting the border? Thank you in advance for your input.

I am still quilting in the top area but wanted to get some feedback on the sea weed. I may add some detail to turtles or rainbow fish, perhaps beads or foil. Again, all input welcome.

I don’t have any suggestions for quilting but wanted to say the quilt is cute! I like your idea of using sparkly thread in the seaweed area.

As for quilting in the border area - I would consider carrying on with the sea weed theme and maybe even some bubbles towards the top?? I just watched a Bluprint class where the suggestion was to mirror the focus of the quilt into the negative space or borders.

I really like your idea to add some sparkle and/or metallic threads, beads, etc.. Super cute and can't wait to see how you finish it!

Sparkle thread is going to be so pretty. I love the idea of seaweed in the border.

I think couching and sparkly thread would add to the seaweed nicely. Is this going to be a wall hanging? I don't think I would couch on a quilt for daily use though.

That is a perfect piece for your ideas! Love the fishies and turtles. Did you stamp them onto the fabric?

Wonderfil makes a pretty Hologram thread that shimmers.

For me a variegated and shiny thread would work in the seaweed to give it more definition also a thread that is much heavier from Kreinik called Finishing Touches Metallic Threads when I want that very high gloss metallic. Kreinik carries a number of different carded threads for dimensional finishing. http://www.kreinik.com is the web address.

Thank you everyone. This is a wall hanging so I can experiment with embellishments. I have some thread on order. When I work on it more, I will show you how your suggestions helped me, including bringing the quilting motifs into the border.
