    Default Twin size quilt measurements?

What is the standard measurements for a twin size quilt? How much do you let hang down on the sides? Just wondering. I'm making one for my cousin's 8 year old daughter and I'm just "winging it". (Not using a pattern).
    Thanks for any input.

Here's a good chart. If you subtract the suggested quilt size from the mattress size, the drop is about 7". This is about the length I usually use.

Unless it's a surprize, you might want to get the mattress dimensions from your cousin, see if she'd like a longer drop, more like a spread. Also, there are the extended twin mattresses that are a bit longer.

Thank you Paper Princess. I printed this chart for future reference.

keep in mind a lot of today's mattresses are thicker than they used to be. If you don't know the thickness of the mattress, you may want to make it a little bigger.

I like my twin sized quilts to be 65 inches long. That is what it takes to reach the bed skirt. I guess my mattress is one of the thicker ones, though I didn't think that, not really.

Still, I like having the chart. It gives me a place to start at. Thanks.
