    Default Two color trapunto

I just saw a picture of a trapunto square that had a blue background and the trapunto design was white. I assume it was all one piece of fabric. It was beautiful but I have no idea how to do this. Do you know how this was done?

My understanding of trapunto is that it's 2 pieces of fabric. You applique one fabric on top of another, with a cutout layer of batting in between to provide puffiness. I've done it a couple of times but am no kind of expert.
